Common Questions

Clear answers before you book.

01How often should I visit the dentist?

Most patients come twice a year. Your dentist may suggest more or fewer visits depending on your teeth and gums, and decides when you need X-rays.

02Do you take my insurance?

We bill PPO and indemnity dental plans and file the claim for you. Whether we are in network depends on your plan, so tell us your plan and we answer before you book. The How fees work page has the rest.

03What if I don't have insurance?

You pay the fee for your visit, and we give you a written estimate in advance, before treatment starts. Financing is offered by third-party lenders. Approval and terms are set by the lender.

04Do you accept Medicaid or CHIP?

Coverage depends on your plan and on the dentist, so call the office. We answer plainly, for adults and for children, before you book.

05Will it hurt?

We numb the area before we start, and you can raise a hand for a break at any time. Some treatments leave a tooth or the gums sore afterward, and your dentist tells you what to expect.

06What is a deep cleaning?

A deep cleaning, called scaling and root planing, cleans below the gumline. Your dentist recommends one when the exam and X-rays show gum disease, and explains why first.

07Do you see children, and from what age?

Yes. Our general dentists see children and adults. Dentists generally suggest a first visit by a child's first birthday, and we go at the child's pace.

08What counts as a dental emergency, and what do I do first?

For swelling that spreads to your face, eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, a serious blow to the head, or bleeding that won't stop, call 911 or go to an emergency room. If a tooth is knocked out or broken, call us right away and we tell you what to do first.

09What helps me stay comfortable?

We numb the area before treatment and pause when you ask. If you are anxious, tell us when you book and your dentist goes over what can help before you sit down.

10Can I get a written estimate before treatment?

Yes. After your exam your dentist lists the treatment, the visits it takes and what it will cost. Ask for it at scheduling or at your visit, and take the time you need.

11What should I bring to my first visit?

Your insurance card if you have one, a photo ID and a list of the medicines you take. If you have recent dental X-rays, bring them or ask your old office to send them.

12How do I change or cancel a visit?

Call us as early as you can and we find another time. Tell us if you are running late and we do what we can.
